Why filter your water?

No matter where it is sourced, as water travels through the environment, it has the potential to absorb contaminants.  Air borne pollution, including industrial waste, is found in rainwater and chemicals, including fertiliser run-off, can affect dams and bore water.

By the time tap water arrives at your home it has had many opportunities to pick up environmental contaminates and pollutants, particularly from old water pipes and open water catchment systems.  The chemicals (such as chlorine) added to your water by water authorities can have a range of negative impacts on your health.

In addition, the build up of scale, particularly in hard water areas can severely effect the functioning of your water appliances such as hot water systems, dishwashers and coffee machines.

Filtering the water you and your family use at home is the most effective way to eliminate these contaminants.

We all know that we need to drink at least 6 – 8 glasses of water per day to maintain our good health – however, the quality of the water we drink is very important to our health outcomes.

Filtering your water is the most reliable way to remove:

  • Sediment and suspended matter
  • Water borne diseases including giardia and cryptosporidium
  • Chemicals such as iron, manganese, chlorine and hydrogen sulphide
  • Discolouration
  • Odour

Additionally, specific cartridges or membranes can be installed to address problems like lead.

So, is filtered water healthier? You bet it is – and it tastes great too

One of the things about water is that everything is attracted to it … and by “everything” I mean that it can be affected in many ways.

The pipes it runs through might be rusty, if you’re close to the processing plant, there may be that little whiff of chlorine when you turn on the tap, in you live in “hard water” areas, there may be a very minerally taste to your water.

But, once you install a water filter, any traces of “funny” taste and odour are gone. All you will taste is …. the water and its yummy.

Well, think about it.

If you currently buy bottled water in Australia you probably can’t get it any cheaper than $1 for 600ml. Now, interestingly that makes it about $1.75 - $1.80 a litre – THAT’S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PETROL.

Obviously, costs of filtering your water will vary depending on how much you use, but we estimate your beautiful, fresh, filtered water will cost you between 1 and 2 cents a litre – that’s a pretty big difference.

And that’s not all!

Your water using appliances will last longer if you use filtered water in them because there’s no scale build up – and no nasty marks on your ironing either.

Think about it – mountains and mountains of empty plastic water bottles.

Do you know that if the average person drank the 2 litres per day water they need and they used bottled water to do it, during their lifetime they would generate, conservatively, over 38,000 empty plastic bottles.

So, by installing a water filter and refilling your own container just think about how much plastic you’re NOT generating and then give yourself a big pat on the back.
