Continental understands
your company's water treatment needs.
We deliver the quality you expect with
a variety of standard features and a
selection of options for your specific
application.
Various Tank
Configurations provide one
to four to 375 litres of high
quality deionized water per minute.
Separate Bed
Technology offers a low cost/high
capacity system for industrial
grade water.
Mixed Bed Technology
provides high quality water with
minimum space requirements.
Resistivity Lamp
allows for quick, easy monitoring
of product water quality. Lights
indicating water qualities of
50,000 ohm/cm to 1,000,000 ohm/cm
are available to meet your requirements.
Corrosion Resistant
Tanks withstand the harshest
environments.
High Quality
Resins maximise the time between
tank exchanges and maintain a
consistent, high-quality
product.
Quick-Connect
Tank Adaptors allow for quick
tank exchange, reducing service
time.
Options
Auto Switch
transfers the flow of raw water
from one tank or train of tanks
to a second automatically when
product water quality falls below
a set point. This provides an
interrupted flow of treated water.
Resistivity Monitors
provide an accurate reading of
the water quality being produced
by the system.
Audible and Visible
Alarms alert your operators
when the system needs attention.
Skid Mounting
eases placement and installation
of equipment.

PRETREATMENT
Carbon Filtration
removes chlorine to extend resin
life and improve product water
quality.
Sediment Filtration
improves feed water quality by
removing suspended particles from
water.
Reverse Osmosis
as a pretreatment to SDI improves
product water quality by reducing
dissolved solids from water.
Storage and Repressurisation
provide deionised water when intermittent,
higher flow rates are required.
What is Deionisation?
Deionisation is the most efficient
process known for removing dissolved
salts and minerals from water, the
process removes these impurities by
ion exchange. Synthetic ion exchange
resin, charged with either hydrogen
(H+) or hydroxide (OH-) ions, release
their ions in exchange for the positively
charged cations (Mg++, Ca++, Na+,
etc.) or negatively charged anions
(CO3=, SO4=, Cl-, etc.) which may
be present in the water supply. An
efficient mixed bed deioniser, combining
both cation and anion resins, can
produce water that approaches the
theoretical limits of purity (18.24
megohm-cm resistivity at 25ºC).
As a practical matter 18 megohm-cm
is the ultimate attainable purity.
Continental Water Systems deionisers
are capable of achieving these levels
in applications that require it.
Mixed Bed
Deionisation
Mixed Bed deionisation utilises only
one ion exchange tank with both cation
and anion exchange resin mixed to
produce an infinite number of separate
bed ion exchange sites within the
single tank. Water quality from a
mixed bed system is much higher than
separate bed, with 18 megohm-cm or
.028 parts per million possible. In
many applications the mixed bed deionisers
are preceded by separate bed deionisation
units in order to get large volumes
of water from the units.
separate
bed deionisation
In separate bed deionisation, dissolved
cations (Mg++, Ca++, Na+, etc.) are
removed by directing the feed water
through a bed of cation exchange resins.
The water then flows through a bed
of anion exchange resin to remove
the negatively charged fraction of
the dissolved solids in the water
(HCO3-, CO3-, Cl-,SiO2, etc.). Separate
bed deionisation can remove more than
99% of the dissolved ions in a water
supply, depending on the constituents
of the water, regenerant chemicals
type, and litres used. Product water
quality from separate bed deionisation
systems is typically within the 1
megohm-cm range, approximately 1 part
per million as CaCO3.
What Systems
are Available?
Continental Water Systems can provide
any number of systems to satisfy customer
needs. Tanks are available in sizes
ranging from 7 Litres with a flow
rate of 3L/min. to 100 Litres with
a flow rate of 60L/min. The larger
systems can be arranged in parallel
to increase flow rates up to 200 L/min.
or more.
What Service
is Provided?
Once your deionised water requirements
are determined, a system is selected
that will provide a 90 day service
period. Our technicians install the
system and provide on-site training
to all relevant personnel.
Service Exchange
Deionisation SYstem
Continental Water Systems will install
and maintain the system best suited
to your requirements, all you have
to provide is a water tap and power
supply. Your installation details
are logged into our computer, which
automatically alerts when the system
is due for the regular 90 day service.
The service will include replacing
the prefilter, activated carbon, the
exhausted deionisation tank and post
filter. A complete test of the system
will be carried out before the service
is completed.
Should the quality monitor indicate
the "worker" tank is exhausted
before the regular 90 day service
is due, all that is required is a
call to Continental Water Systems
and the system will be serviced within
24 hours, the 90 day service period
starts from this time.
What is the
Cost?
The initial installation cost includes
all the set up charges, prefilter,
carbon cartridge or carbon tank plus
two SDI tanks. Additional costs are
incurred only when the SDI tank and
prefilter have to be exchanged due
to exhaustion or every 90 days, whichever
occurs first. On larger systems a
flat-metered rate is available on
a user-pays basis.
Resin Regeneration
Only the highest quality resins are
used by Continental Water Systems.
The tanks containing the exhausted
resin are returned to Continental's
plant in Seven Hills, NSW, where they
are emptied and the resin transferred
to regeneration columns. The resin
is regenerated in 350 Litre batches
using caustic soda and select hydrochloric
acid. Each batch of resin is carefully
checked for water purity before being
transferred back into the SDI tanks.
All plant discharge is monitored and
meets Trade Waste and Environmental
standards.
Some Benefits
of Service Deionisation
1. No capital outlay.
2. The systems are totally flexible;
the tank sizes can be simply adjusted
to meet any change in water requirements.
3. The water quality is unsurpassed,
10 megohm-cm or better, less than
0.1 microsiemen-cm.
4. All of the SDI Systems are fully
maintained by Continental Water Systems
Pty. Ltd.
5. There are no hazardous chemicals,
safety or trade waste problems normally
associated with insitu demineralising
systems.
6. SDI tanks are warehoused in Sydney
and Melbourne ensuring same or next
day service in these metropolitan
areas.
IMPORTANT
NOTICE: All equipment supplied
in the installation will remain the

Pty. Ltd. Prior to installation of
the system you will required to sign
a document confirming your acceptance
of our conditions.
